Live a Generous Life; Leave an Enduring Legacy

Most people, when nearing the end of life, will ask themselves some hard questions: Did my life count for anything? What have I left behind? Will anything I contributed last for eternity?

The secret to mapping out a meaningful existence is to turn the tables on late-in-life introspection and ask those questions early on, so that every decision going forward leads down a path toward fulfillment. This particular perspective is from the owner of one of our nation’s largest chain of craft stores, Hobby Lobby founder and CEO David Green in his latest book, A Generous Life: 10 Steps to Living a Life Money Can’t Buy.

Green, along with co-author Bill High who founded The Signatry, pull readers into revolutionary thinking that encourages them to “make the end the beginning” and realize that by doing so, they’ll have actionable goals toward enduring legacies.

In A Generous Life, Green and High share big picture perspectives that shaped their approach to life, along the way offering practical tips for a life of true riches, touching on marriage, parenting and family communication, plus learning that you can never out-give God.

Underscored throughout is that generosity comes in many forms — it is a mindset and a lifestyle, rooted in faith, which brings great joy and purpose. Between the covers of A Generous Life, Green guides readers through 10 simple but life-changing steps, including Recognize Everything is God’s, Put People Before Profit, Create a Family Legacy Plan and more.

Basically the author says that a truly generous life can profoundly shape generations. This book gives readers the tools so they can start right where they are. Most people are richer than they realize — and when they give it back to God, true wealth will never end.

    Excerpt from review:

“The book is well written and the author poses great insight into living a life full of happiness without focusing on money. Whether you are young or approaching retirement age, this book exposes a wonderful step by step approach to … living without the thought of money as the main source of happiness.”

    Final Thoughts

This is a beautifully designed and formatted book that is easy to read and understand. From a religious perspective (I find all religions interesting), the author delves deep in the Christian psyche and pulls out a few plums. Makes a great gift for a good reading buddy or your local book club.
